The Stotesbury Cup Regatta is the world’s oldest and largest high school rowing competition and takes place on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia. The regatta will be held on May 17th and 18th 2024, so mark your calendars!

Schools come from all over North America to compete in over 31 different events; 5,700 athletes, 963 boats and 10,000 spectators line the river to watch two days of rowing. While we do not have the exact schedule for the 2023 races and time trials, outlined below is the typical schedule based on past years for the race days. We will update the information once we have it in Spring of 2023.

Typically time trial races begin on Friday morning at 8:00 am, with the last “finals” race starting at 5:40 pm on Saturday. ALL ROWERS, parents, family members and friends are encouraged to join our teams at Stotesbury! Cheer on and support our athletes and coaches and spend time in the parent tent along the river.

PARENT HOTEL RESERVATIONS

Due to the Penn graduation, our athletes will be accommodated at the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue this year, a change from our usual arrangements. Those who have rowed for TBC Racing might already be familiar with this venue from summer regattas. While the hotel's proximity to the race course is a significant advantage, it's located outside downtown Philadelphia, which might not be ideal for all parents. For those wishing to stay closer to their athletes, we suggest booking at the Homewood Suites City Avenue, conveniently connected to the Hilton. However, please be aware that our room block at the Homewood Suites is limited and preference will be given to Stotesbury volunteers. If you would like information about the room block, please contact Molly Evans.

Please note: You DO NOT BOOK A ROOM FOR YOUR ATHLETE. Athlete reservations are made directly by Stotesbury coordinators.

COST PER ATHLETE

The estimated cost is $800 per athlete, but will be confirmed in Spring 2024.  The club “breaks even” on Stotesbury so the cost per rower is based on transportation, lodging, and meals for our athletes.

THURSDAY, MAY 16
NCS and STA athletes: Travel directly to the Schuylkill River by bus typically leaving (around 1pm) in the early afternoon. Lunch will be provided on the bus. Athletes will practice on the riverfront race site Thursday afternoon/evening. Dinner will be delivered on the riverfront for the athletes & coaches. The bus will then take athletes back to the hotel for check-in and meetings with coaches.

Thursday is a busy day for the athletes, and parents are asked to connect with them at the hotel Thursday evening only as coaches may permit. Parents are on their own for dinner.

FRIDAY, MAY  17
Qualifying heats for freshman boys and girls begin Friday at 8:00 am. Breakfast will be provided from 6:00 am - 8:00am for all athletes. Once we have the race times, we will set a bus schedule.

During the two days of the regatta, a bus will shuttle the rowers back and forth between the racecourse and hotel. If there are empty seats on the buses, parents are allowed to take them. Most parents Uber to/from the river, as limited parking is available at various locations somewhat far from the river. If parents chose to drive directly to the river either Friday or Saturday, be advised, walking will be required.

Two tents - one for parents and one for athletes - will be located along the river in two different places. Both tents will have team-provided food and drinks. Please note: lunch will be provided daily at the tents for athletes, but not for parents.

The athletes will have a team dinner from 6:30pm- 8:30pm Friday night at the hotel.

SATURDAY, MAY 18
Breakfast will be provided for all the athletes. If their boats qualify to move on from their initial heat, rowers will compete in the morning in semi-finals with final races in the late afternoon.

Lunch will be provided for athletes. Parents are on their own for lunch!

When your athlete finishes racing, he or she may return to Washington DC with you or with teammates on the bus on Saturday evening. In previous years, one bus has driven back to DC mid-day Saturday for those no longer in the competition.  Usually Stotesbury wraps up around 5:30PM.

We will need parent volunteers to help make this event a success. Stay tuned for a sign-up!

We can't wait for this awesome event on the Schuylkill! If you have any questions at all, please contact us.
