STA HEAD COACH – TED HALEY

Ted has led the St. Albans rowing program since its founding in 1993. Under his leadership, STA crews have achieved significant success, including a Stotesbury Cup title in the Senior 8 in 2011, silver medals for the 2nd and Freshman 8s that same year, and the program’s first appearance at the Henley Royal Regatta in 2017. Coach Haley has been named Washington Post All-Met Coach of the Year four times.

 

A former standout rower at Canisius High School and Georgetown University, Ted won national and international titles as a junior and later helped Georgetown’s Varsity Lightweight 8+ win the Dad Vail Regatta in both 1988 and 1989. He was captain of Georgetown’s crew team his senior year and has also coached successful junior crews at Thompson’s Boat Club and the Craftsbury Sculling Center.

In addition to coaching, Ted works at St. Albans as a Lower School guidance counselor, Lower School hockey coach, and teacher.

STA FRESHMAN COACH – TOM COSGROVE

Tom joined the St. Albans coaching staff in 2018 and serves as Head Freshman Coach. In his first year leading the freshman team, his boat placed third at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta.

 

Tom began coaching in 2009 at Gonzaga College High School, where he was part of a staff that helped lead the program during a historic run of five straight Men’s Varsity Eight Stotesbury Cup titles and two trips to the Henley Royal Regatta. He later coached at Georgetown, Walt Whitman High School, and TBC Racing, with a focus on novice and freshman rower development.

Tom rowed in high school and earned a silver medal at Stotesbury in the Second Eight. He graduated from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, where he played varsity basketball and served as team captain.

STA ASST. VARSITY COACH - GRACE LIBBEN

Grace began rowing at The Ohio State University, where she helped her team win two Big Ten Team Championships and earn two runner-up finishes. She competed with the 1V8 at the NCAA Championships and was recognized as a scholar athlete, Academic All-Big Ten honoree, and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.

 

Grace graduated with a degree in Public Health and later began a master’s degree in Public Health. She joined the St. Albans coaching staff in 2021 and also works full time in the school’s nurse’s office. She currently trains with the DC High Performance Group with aspirations of making the U.S. National Team.

NCS HEAD COACH - JUDITH VOGEL

Judith Vogel serves as Head Coach for NCS and also leads the DC High Performance Group, which she founded in 2022. She brings extensive coaching experience at the junior, collegiate, club, and national team levels, including leadership roles with high performance programs at Potomac Boat Club and Riverside Boat Club.

 

Judith has coached numerous athletes and crews to national and international opportunities, including World Championships, U23 World Championships, World Cups, and National Team selections. She has also coached at George Washington University, Huron High School, Three Rivers Rowing Association, and USRowing development programs.

 

Judith studied psychology and biology at Carnegie Mellon University, where she rowed for four years and won a bronze medal in the Women’s 2- at the Dad Vail Regatta. She was part of the inaugural class of the Institute for Rowing Leadership and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology.

NCS FRESHMAN COACH – STEPHEN HOSKINS

Stephen joined NCS after three years coaching at Gonzaga College High School, where he helped lead successful varsity and novice crews, including WMIRA championship boats and strong finishes at Stotesbury and SRAA Nationals.

 

Before Gonzaga, Stephen coached at Syracuse University, George Washington University, and Jackson-Reed High School. He also served as an assistant coach for the U17 Junior National Team camp in Sarasota, Florida.

Stephen rowed for four years at Syracuse University and graduated with a degree in civil engineering. He currently works as a Project Manager at Pepco.

NCS ASSISTANT COACH - PETER SCHMIDT

Peter is a six-time U.S. Rowing National Team member who represented the United States from 2014 to 2019 in the LM2x, LM4x, and LM8+. He earned a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships.

 

After his competitive rowing career, Peter moved into coaching and served as an assistant coach for Potomac Boat Club’s High Performance Program from 2022 to 2024. Most recently, he coached the Angolan single sculler at the 2024 Olympic Games.
