4/20/19 St Andrews - STA Race Report & Pictures

By Kirsten Albers & Aasheema Hudda, 05/01/19, 1:15AM EDT

Race report from Coach Ted:

Our third regatta of the season took place on the scenic and historic Noxontown Pond at St. Andrew’s School in Delaware. Strong tailwinds made for challenging conditions, but did not stop the regatta from taking place. As usual the STA and NCS families came out in force for this day of racing and fellowship.

The day started with a solid race from our 3v8. They were second behind a strong Montclair crew with a fast time. The next race was the 2v8 who came in a close 3rd behind BCC and Kent School from CT. These guys did not quite execute a proper race plan and probably could have been out in front if they were a bit more controlled in the middle of the race. They held a slight lead with about 500 meters to go but got passed in the finishing sprint. A few days of missed practices did not help this crew. The 1v8 did not seem to handle the rough conditions well and were 6 seconds off BCC and Montclair and 2 seconds behind Kent. Our frosh 8 crushed the field and second place was 14 seconds behind. Coach Cosgrove has this crew firing on all cylinders and they gain confidence with every weekend. Just a few minutes after the freshman race the crew made a few substitutions,  went back up to the start and raced again in the 2nd frosh 8 event. They were second behind a solid Montclair crew. Our young rowers came out and put in two solid efforts to finish the day.

Thanks to all who showed up on this blustery but mild Saturday to cheer on the Combined Cathedral Crews.
